Dandruff, Flaking & Scalp Disorders

A persistent itchy or flaky scalp is a medical condition worth diagnosing properly.

Itching, flaking and redness of the scalp can come from dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis, fungal infection, contact reactions and other conditions. They can look alike but need different treatment, and long-standing inflammation can also affect hair.

At RD Clinic, care begins with a detailed clinical history, trichoscopy and targeted investigations where needed.

  • Examination of the scalp for scaling, redness, pustules and scarring
  • Trichoscopy to look at the follicles and scalp surface
  • Fungal testing or, rarely, a biopsy only when needed to confirm a difficult diagnosis

Treatment is matched to the diagnosis and may include medicated shampoos and scalp preparations, oral treatment in selected patients, and scalp procedures such as HydraScalp for deep cleansing and hydration. Persistent pain, burning, redness or scarring should be assessed promptly.

  • Wash the scalp regularly with the shampoo recommended for your condition
  • Avoid scratching and harsh chemical treatments
  • Follow the treatment plan consistently and attend follow-up

Hair loss treatment is selected according to your diagnosis, not a standard package. Suitability and expected outcomes are determined after clinical assessment. Outcomes vary according to diagnosis and individual response.
